About the speakers

Andrew Gn
Andrew Gn was born in Singapore and established the House of Andrew Gn in Paris in 1995. He studied Western art and fashion at prestigious institutions in London, New York, and Milan; followed by a year-long position as assistant to renowned Parisian couturier Emanuel Ungaro. His distinctive designs carefully blend contrasting cultural influences, with an emphasis on quality and craftsmanship. A recipient of the Singapore President’s Design Award for Designer of the Year in 2007, his is the first and only label by a Singaporean to show consistently at Paris Fashion Week.

Circe Henestrosa
Independent Curator and Head of the School of Fashion, LASALLE College of the Arts
Circe Henestrosa is a fashion curator. She is interested in looking at using heritage to develop cultural enterprises in fashion. Her curatorial practice explores how garments and material culture inform and reflect social-cultural aspects of fashion within the exhibition context. At LASALLE, she has conducted research projects between Singapore and other countries such as the Philippines, Korea, and Cambodia. She is currently reading for her PhD at London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London.

This talk is organised in conjunction with Andrew Gn: Fashioning Singapore and the World. This exhibition presents the fashion journey of Andrew Gn, one of Singapore’s most prolific designers, and celebrates his major gift to the nation. Known for creations that are refined and maximalist, with a cross-cultural aesthetic exemplary of innovation in tradition, Andrew Gn’s precisely tailored works have been embraced by royals, celebrities, and other influential women around the world. Through five sections and over 100 representative works, the exhibition explores Gn’s roots in Asia and expressions of Asian and Western art and history in his work, and celebrates his distinctive aesthetics, craftsmanship, and global impact.
